My love affair with Stylophone began shortly after a lovely interview with OMD frontman, Andy McCluskey. I told him about my daily radio feature in which I was playing the melody of a popular song on my Stylophone and challenging my listeners to guess the name of the song. At the time, I was attempting to play one of OMD’s hits and in a wonderfully showbiz scene he publicly ousted me as “utterly destroying Enola Gay” then proceeded to ban me (and my Stylophone) from every venue on their 40th anniversary tour!
Shortly after the story hit the papers, the kind people at Dubreq heard about the saga and sent me some more Stylophones to kickstart my musical journey. They have a history with this sort of thing that started in 1969 when they sent one to David Bowie… he used it to create Space Oddity. No pressure then!
Needless to say, it doesn’t stop there. My record label, Witty Ditty Records, always features a Stylophone in every song, I’ve made friends with The Kingston University Stylophone Orchestra and I still play my Stylophone live on radio every day.
