If you’ve tuned into my radio show recently then you might’ve heard some of my weekly poems. I’ve been rather enjoying penning and reading a little poetic comedy every Friday and as this week is my birthday, I thought I’d celebrate it with all of you by sharing my thoughts on turning 30. Also, quite a few of my friends will join me in reaching the big 3-0 this year and I hope this little rhyme I wrote might help in adjusting to such a daunting thought, as it helped me!
If you like it, please share it. I’ll be reading the poem on my radio show this week (Friday @ 1pm on Phoenix FM) and I’m gradually collecting all of my weekly poems into a book that you’ll have a hefty “mate’s rates” discount on if you’re subscribed to this website… consider it a little thank you for your kinship.
Thanks for being in my corner and thank you for all of your birthday wishes – let’s hope the next 30 are as good as the last!
I Woke Up And I’m 30
Today is just another day
In almost every single way
There’s nothing different, all OK
Except I woke up and I’m 30
.
I went to bed the night before
A little tired, nothing more
Now all of a sudden my knee is sore
I woke up and I’m 30
.
I went to sleep quite content
And never wondered what it meant
But now I wonder where it went
I woke up and I’m 30
.
So I go downstairs to get a drink
In my Star Wars PJs at the sink
My Mum & Dad said “ere just think
You woke up and you’re 30”
.
I think about how old it seemed
To think of 30 in your teens
But here I am, still chasing dreams
I woke up and I’m 30
.
When you’re young it seems so old
The age with all your problems solved
But now I’m here, all I’ve been told
Is I woke up and I’m 30
.
But now I realise something new
A secret no one’s telling you
That nobody really knows what to do
When they wake up and they’re 30
.
I’ll stick it out and carry on
Trying not to get it wrong
And live it like I ain’t got long
Because I woke up and I’m 30
.
I’ve never really had a path
Just did the things that made me laugh
So I’m keeping my glass full by half
I woke up and I’m 30
.
